Good Thing We Packed Our Sea Legs!

Good thing we packed our sea legs, because it was one choppy, sloppy, wet wedding weekend!

Here’s the Cliff Notes version…

Way too late the night before, I decided that it was time to pack. Here’s me on the bathroom floor trying to gather toiletries.

We woke up at 6 AM which was about six hours from the time this photo was taken.  I thought I’d be a zombie all morning, but for some odd reason, when I have to get up for work it’s really hard to get out of bed.  When I have to wake up to catch a Ferry to Block Island for an awesome time, I spring out of bed chipper as can be.  Weird how that works huh?

We hit traffic on the way to the ferry, and had to run (literally) with our bags to catch it.  Thankfully we made it or we would have been late to the wedding.

We checked in to our hotel (that I forgot to take a photo of, but here’s one from their website…).

I didn’t spend much time scouring the island and snapping shots because it was raining the entire time we were there!  I felt so bad for the bride. She had always wanted a beach wedding, and here we are in the pouring rain.  Like the blog title says, we definitely had to find the silver lining on these clouds.

I packed the green dress and the peach dress in case I changed my mind.  I asked the bride & her sisters when we were all hanging out at their beach house and sipping mimosas (my fave!).  The thought the green was too dressy.  So, I took the bride’s advice and went with the peach.

Mr FSL & I ran in the pouring rain, with my heels in my hand (I wore flip-flops to run in 😛 ).  Good thing I wore my hair in a ponytail, or it would have looked like this:

and not in a good way.

Here’s me with wet hair stuck to my forehead.

The wedding had to happen inside.  If you’ve ever been to Block Island, it was at Ballards. Here are a few pics of the inside…

And outside…

Yikes.

After the food, the drinks took over for most people.

Here’s my photo reel of the night’s events a la The Hangover Movie (they go from good to crazy as the night went on:

The maid of honor was my partner in crime all night…

Me & my bff April (the bride’s sister) realizing that we just cut the friggin cake.  Uh, not okay, lol!  Luckily, the bride thinks we are hilarious.  Phew!

All better!

The next morning was not pretty.  Still rainy.

We went into a few vintage shops.

Saw some nice stuff…

I fell in love with this rug, but the mark up on the island is crazy, so I went home with a hangover and some Laffy Taffys from the candy shop.

Woah.

What did you guys do this weekend?

What’s the most embarrassing thing you’ve ever done at a wedding?! Please make me feel better…

  1. Love the dress choice!

My best friend got married this week-end. Gotta love a wedding in the middle of nowhere Iowa. My husband couldn’t believe that free beer was just stacked on the bar for the taking…whether you’re over 21 or 16. Glad he got to experience that. 😛

Your friend’s wedding looks a little classier. 😛

  2. OMFG I LOOOOOOOVE that you cut the cut—that’s awesome!! You look so gorgie!!

  3. well you definitely looked FAB in my favorite of the three dresses, which were ALL wonderful! And that rug… WELL… that is UNBELIEVABLE! I wish I could get that for my yellow/grey office!

  4. Hmm…nothing embarrassing for me at a wedding yet, and I say yet because really isn’t it just a matter of time. But it looks like you had a fun time Chica. Was the lady in purple the bride?

    • Nope. Long sleeved purple was the bride’s sister, strapless purple, maid of honor.

      • Oh, too bad, I love seeing wedding dresses, they’re so princessy. The funniest thing happened when I was a maid of honor. I was coming out of the reception in my big poofy dress and this cute little girl spotted me and made a bee line to me (she must have been about three). She asked me what I was doing and why I had on the dress. I told her I just came from a wedding. She then asked about the bride and I said she’s still in the reception. Her final demand was for me to “show me her.” It was actually really cute, I said I can’t go anywhere with her unless her Mommy comes with us. She promptly dragged her poor Mother over and I complied. It was kind of hysterical. My best friend was with me and laughed at the whole thing so hard.

      • So cute!! She must have thought you were a princess!

  5. Thanks for delurking Mindy. Gotta say, you are a gorgeous girl!

Hmm, most embarassing thing at a wedding…I tend to eat a lot of cake..like a LOT. One wedding I went to, I took cake off people’s tables that were dancing..whoops!

  6. ha! I love that you cut the cake. I have a few photos of me in a bridesmaid dress showing everyone how I could move, but the bodice on the dress did not. It was almost obscene. 🙂

  7. It looks like it was such a fun wedding despite the weather!! You looked so pretty and what a great looking dress!

  8. Gorgeous photos! Looks like a blast!

I’ve never done anything embarassing… but at my brother’s wedding I was the ONLY single chick… and the ONLY single guy, a very drunk rugby player from my brotehr’s team was trying to be ALL over me… it could have been bad (even though he was hot ahaha)

  9. If it makes you feel any better – My BFF and I actually ate OFF the cake with forks at her high school reunion – I was a year older than here and not even invited to be there but it’s the class president’s fault for having the reunion at a bar!!!

As far as weddings go – I was never worried when I did it in the moment but now that I’m getting married I really hope others don’t yell at me and Mike while we do the garter removal.. what I used to yell… I would scream “NO HANDS, USE YOUR TEETH!”… looking back that was REALLLLLY inappropriate to yell when my friend’s grandmother’s were present… right? 😉

You looked amazing. So sad for the bride that wanted the beach wedding to be stuck indoors w/ rain. But it still looked like a really great time!

  10. ADORABLE dress!!! Ahhh, can’t wait to go summer dress shopping!!!! 🙂

And yes, please, another make-up post porfavor 😉

  11. Looks like you had fun, despite the weather. And even though you would have looked fabulous in all 3 dresses, I’m glad you went with the peach one. It’s my fave! You looked beautiful!
Also love the side ponytail. It’s my go-to hairstyle:)

  13. You are gorgeous!! Such pretty full lips! I see you do a great job on your make up! 🙂

  14. I love the pic of you & Carissa cutting the cake..no pics of Sarah??

  15. Ah shame about the rain! Great dress choice 🙂 I dropped my napkin into the chocolate fountain at a wedding and they weren’t impressed oops!

  16. Tell the bride that according to Russian tradition when it rains on the wedding day it’s for good luck!!!
